The Select Group is seeking a Data Center Network Engineer to join our client’s Infrastructure Network team supporting global data centers, teleports, and lab environments. In this role, you will lead and contribute to projects that challenge your expertise in routing, switching, security, VoIP, multimedia services, and inflight entertainment systems. This role requires the engineer to be onsite in the Chicago, IL area three days per week, with the flexibility to work remotely two days per week.
Data Center Network Engineer Qualifications:
- Due to the nature of the work and access to controlled information, U.S. citizenship is required for this position.
- Willingness to travel up to 20%, including extended international assignments (e.g., 2-week data center deployments).
- 5+ years of experience in large-scale, complex data center environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with Cisco and Juniper network hardware, including initial configuration of devices.
- Proficiency in routing and switching protocols: OSPF, BGP, RIPv2, MPLS, PBR, HSRP, VRRP, and GLBP.
- Solid understanding of wireless networking and network security protocols (TACACS, RADIUS, VPNs).
- Experience with network equipment such as Cisco Nexus (e.g., Nexus 2K), Catalyst 3650/3850, ASA, IPS, and ASR 1001-HX routers.
- Experience with Linux operating systems (preferred).
- Strong troubleshooting skills, including packet tracing and debugging.
Key Responsibilities: - Coordinate with other teams the decommissioning of legacy hardware to free up our current data center footprints.
- Work with system design and network operations folks for existing data expansion, consolidation, and relocation.
- Assist with the build out of our international teleports.
- Assist with the management of all vendor relations and contracts both domestic and International
- Assist with the budgetary requirements for the existing and future facilities based on business forecast.
- Assist with the decommissioning of legacy hardware to free up our current data center footprints.
- Operational hand off for new equipment/facilities and integration to existing monitoring systems.
- Work with system design and network operations folks to get the requirements for each equipment type.
- Contact potential vendors to get their equipment specs, list prices and other vendor information.
- Develop equipment Purchase Orders and track orders for data center related equipment.
- Partner with network operations to coordinate the delivery, installation, testing and commissioning of DSC related equipment.
- Keep equipment inventory up to date and continue to track POs, goods received, invoices and payments to make sure we don’t fall behind in our payment obligations.
