DescriptionThe Principal HRIS Architect is a senior-level strategic leader responsible for overseeing the architecture, configuration, and optimization of Workday and adjacent HR technologies across the organization. This role serves as a critical advisor to the Employee Experience team and cross-functional stakeholders including IT, Information Security, Finance, and Legal.
This position will lead system architecture strategy, configuration governance, data integrity, testing, release planning, and secure integration of HR systems. Acting as both a systems architect and strategic consultant, the Principal HRIS Architect plays a vital role in ensuring our HR technology ecosystem is scalable, compliant, and aligned with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the architectural strategy and governance for Workday and integrated HR systems.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to Employee Experience leadership and cross-functional stakeholders on system solutions, integrations, and best practices.
- Oversee the configuration, testing, and validation of Workday modules and enhancements.
- Manage bi-annual Workday releases, including impact assessments, stakeholder briefings, and system readiness planning.
- Partner with IT and security teams to ensure all integrations and data exchanges are secure, compliant, and high-performing.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement controls to ensure compliance with data privacy laws and internal policies.
- Identify gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities within current HRIS processes and propose scalable solutions.
- Support incident resolution and escalation where a deep understanding of Workday architecture is required.
- Architect and document secure and efficient data flows across internal and third-party systems.
- Support and guide the implementation of new technologies and significant product capabilities.
- Maintain and audit Workday foundational components (e.g., organizational structure, job architecture, integrations, security).
- Collaborate on the development of business continuity and data lifecycle plans.
Required Qualifications- Workday Certification(s) and deep knowledge of Workday HCM core, security, and integration architecture.
- Minimum of 7 years of Workday experience, including configuration, implementation, testing, and architecture.
- Proven experience leading full lifecycle Workday deployments or major enhancements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.
- Experience partnering with cross-functional teams including IT, InfoSec, Legal, and Finance.
- Solid understanding of HR data privacy, compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), and security best practices.
- Project or program management experience; PMP or similar certification preferred.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, and user adoption planning skills.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience managing or influencing enterprise-level HRIS strategy.
- Hands-on experience with enterprise integrations (e.g., APIs, EIBs, middleware).
- Familiarity with adjacent systems such as payroll, benefits administration, and learning management platforms.
- Ability to train, mentor, and coach junior team members or HR system users.
