Procedural Technical Artist
Location: Sunnyvale, CA or Seattle, WA (Hybrid: Tues–Thurs onsite)
Duration: 12+ months rolling contract
Overview
We are seeking a Procedural Technical Artist to join a team developing high-fidelity 3D synthetic data that powers next-generation computer vision and machine perception technologies. This role is focused on procedural workflows, automation, and building scalable systems. You will use Houdini and Maya to transform individual assets (objects, environments, characters) into large-scale, production-ready content pipelines. Instead of manually building assets, you will design systems that enable efficient content generation while maintaining visual quality.
Responsibilities
Design and implement procedural systems to generate scalable 3D assets for machine learning and computer vision pipelines
Partner with artists to identify opportunities for automation and efficiency improvements
Build tools, scripts, and workflows to accelerate large-scale asset creation
Translate creative requirements into technical solutions without sacrificing quality
Produce technical documentation and training materials to support new tools and pipelines
Prototype quickly in a fast-paced environment while balancing performance and quality constraints
Required Skills
Expertise in Houdini and Maya (required)
Proven experience creating procedural/parametric content pipelines for games, film, VFX, VR/AR/MR
Strong scripting background: VEX required; Python strongly preferred; C# a plus
Track record of building tools and systems from scratch for large-scale procedural asset creation
Experience with multiple asset types (environments, objects, characters)
Familiarity with version control systems such as Perforce, Git, or FTrack
Strong problem-solving mindset and ability to work in rapid prototyping environments
Knowledge of AI/ML applications in procedural content generation is a plus
Comfortable working in both Mac OS and Windows environments
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Arts or equivalent professional experience
Portfolio demonstrating:
Tools developed for automation
Houdini networks or scripts
Before/after examples of procedural scaling (terrain, environments, or object replication at scale)
Why Join
This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology at the intersection of art and automation. You will help design scalable systems from the ground up, collaborating with a team that values both creativity and technical innovation.
